Cups in a classic Yunomi shape by Austrian ceramic artist Matthias Kaiser.
Suitable for both hot and cold drinks.
Handcrafted from an iron-bearing Czech stoneware clay with a yellow slip and a so-called Hikidashiguro glaze made only from iron ore and wood ash. Hikidashi means “pulled out” and Guro means “black”. This glaze is traditionally used for matcha chawan (tea bowls) that are pulled from the kiln at high temperature.
These cups are not pulled from the kiln but cooled slowly; however, the thick application of the glaze creates a shrinking effect that makes the glaze set in individual drops. They are reduction-fired at 1250 °C and are dishwasher-safe.
Dimensions: H 9cm, ø 8-9cm – as it is a handmade work: size, shape and glaze may vary.
