Traditional hand-crafted Japanese rush grass trivet. The woven pattern serves as a non-slip surface, providing sturdy support. The green rush color gradually changes to bright brown with use. The material is heat-resistant and shaped to securely hold round-bottomed pots off surfaces. When not in use, it can be hung by its small loop.
Made in Niigata, Japan
Sunami Toru Shoten, established in 1886, originally manufactured woven-rush mat in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, the birthplace of rush and flowered matting. The family business has been maintained by switching to the production of rush baskets, called “yamikago,” which were used in the black market after the war.
